wespeakmedical is a two-linguist team consisting of Javier Gómez Aguirre and Elena de Terán Bleiberg, two Spanish medical translators with Bachelor's Degrees in Medicine and Surgery and more than twenty years' experience each in the translation business. Javier and Elena personally take care of all the projects they accept.

Elena de Terán Bleiberg holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery from Universidad Complutense and Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón (Madrid, Spain), and has more than twenty years’ experience as an English into European Spanish translator, editor, and linguistic quality assurance specialist in the fields of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

Prior to establishing herself as an independent translation service provider, she worked for four years as Head of the Medical Division at the translation-publishing agency Diorki S.L. Her hands-on knowledge of every step of the medical translation process and project management and her thorough understanding of client/provider relationships bring an added-value perspective to end clients and translation agencies alike.

She is a member of the American Translators Association. She speaks Spanish (native and dominant language), English, Italian and French, and she has an intimate knowledge of the quality assurance process in translation (including MQM and SAE J2450 translation quality metrics and quality standards ASTM F 2575-06 and ISO 17100:2015). She has translated and edited more than one hundred medical titles, including Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine and Robbins’s Pathologic Bases of Disease. She has translated and edited several medical dictionaries, including Dorland’s Illustrated Medical Dictionary (Managing Editor), and she has worked with the Spanish Royal National Academy of Medicine in the production of its Diccionario de términos médicos.

Involved in different facets of the medical translation business, she has fun every day providing publication-ready, linguistically and culturally appropriate medical and biomedical products for every target group, from patient testimonials to medical devices software.

She combines her work in translation with that of medical adviser for the Diccionario panhispánico de términos médicos, a joint project of the Spanish Royal National Academy of Medicine and ten Latin American Academies of Medicine.

In her free time, Elena likes reading, writing, learning new languages, working out, listening to music, spending time with friends and family, and playing the guitar.
